INTERBIKE DAZE

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Greetings from Sin City.
We’re here in the hall of Interbike getting ready to stand for another 12 hour stint and jabber about bikes.
Haven’t seen much yet, as our booth has been jam packed with people looking at the goods.
For you out there in chuck spew land, we have a few cool things to report about Ibis for the upcoming months.
First and foremost, we’re really coming into stride on production of the Mojo. We’ll hopefully have backorders filled by the end of the year, with our biggest shipment ever coming in during October. A lot of you who have been patiently waiting will see your bikes soon. Even those of you who haven’t been waiting patiently will be seeing yours soon!

The 07 XTR Mojo Carbon that’s in our booth weighs 24.7 pounds! 5.5 inches of front and rear wheel travel, and no “cheater” parts. All good durable stuff that you won’t be replacing right away. Not too bad.
Here’s a little sneak of a couple of the painted bikes we’ll be offering in early 07 for $100 extra. They look nice. More on this soon too.

Code name for this color: Nuclear Pesto

Code name for this color: Guiness Foam. Or as one of our friends suggested “Irish Head”.

And here’s a close-up of the chain suck plate.

The show is open now, so I’ve got to get to the teeming masses.

Ciao,

Chuck with the sore feet.

BACK FROM THE GLORIOUS (and snowy) BUTTE

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Here’s a quick pic from a location up on Smith Hill above Crested Butte taken near where the lupine insanity shot from the prior post was taken. That’s Long Lake to the left, CB in the background on the right.

The reason for the trip was the 30th annual Pearl Pass Tour, a scenic bike ride from Crested Butte to Aspen. I first did it in 1980, 26 years ago (!!). I met Joe Breeze and Charlie Cunningham among others on this first trip, and ended up apprenticing with both of them the following winter. This is the trip that got me started in the mountain bike industry. Joe showed up for this 30th version too.

The day before it was a bit chilly, here’s a picture from the start, it was spitting snow at this time.

A bit up the road it got chilly, we were 1000 feet shy of our camp elevation here.

Thanks to Jim Haagen-Smit for these last two photos.

We had to abandon our plan to camp at 11,000 feet. It was 14 degrees and still snowing. We were soaking wet. Thanks to our wonderful and tireless hosts on the ride Don and Kay from the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame for organizing everything, only to have this freakish weather. They made the tough but smart decision to abandon about half way up. During the Friday night pre-party, we saw movies from prior years and a bunch of us were in shorts and no shirts on this same ride, same weekend in September. A bunch of us went to camp anyway, lit a fire and warmed up a bit. Here’s what it looked like up there

Don and Kay managed to salvage the weekend with a couple of other STELLAR rides on Sunday and Monday, beautiful Silver Dollar or Bluebird days. Whatever you want to call it.

Here are a few assorted shots, click on any to enlarge…

Not so bad…

Off to the Butte

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

Well ladies and gents, it’s off to that holiest of holy places for mountain biking this weekend: Crested Butte CO.

A bunch of burn-outs (myself among them) are participating in the 30th edition (more or less) of the annual Crested Butte to Aspen ride over Pearl Pass.

Here’s a picture from a couple of summers ago, we won’t have spring flowers but rather fall foliage this time of year. But you get the idea.
